I think you will find the costs you will incur hiring mercs to guard you will FAR offset the benefits of mining low sec to the point that you'd find hugging Veld in hi sec to be more profitable. That and the problem that "guarding" miners is diff...

Back in the day (read 2 years or so ago) I used to hang in 0.0 and low sec and do my thing in relative peace. I took a break from EVE for about a year then returned and have mostly hugged hi sec since. Currently living in overcrowded Caldari space...
